Outrunning a hurricane
The campground we were in in No. Stonington, CT sits right on the border between CT and RI exactly where Hurricane Henri was scheduled to make landfall. We watched the weather all day on Saturday hoping we could stay in our campsite. But each report showed the winds increasing. Just about everyone in our campground had left by 6pm.
So at 11 pm we pulled up stakes and headed north to Maine. We were scheduled to go there on Monday but leaving one day early was in our best interest. The roads were dry and for the most part empty. By the time we got to New Hampshire we had some pretty dense fog. Made it to the Kittery, ME welcome center at 2 am. Settled in between two big rigs that buffered us from the wind. Spent a pretty restful night.Explored the beautiful rest area, walked the dog and made a delicious breakfast before we headed to our next campground in Kennebunkport, ME.
