Phil is an avid boater and for years he subscribed to a very respected magazine - “The Wooden Boat.” It is only published about 6 times a year but he kept them all. So when we met our new friends the Friel’s and they reminded Phil that the home base for the magazine and school were in Brooklin, ME, not that far away, we had to go. We walked around the grounds, toured the school, talked to some of the students and hiked down to the ocean. The school is in a beautiful spot. We saw lots of wooden boats moored near the school. All of the students we met referred to it as camp for adults. Phil wants to come back and take classes next year.
After visiting the school we went down to visit the Brooklin Boat Yard and Marina. It was a lovely night on the water with great light. We explored the dock and some of the great boats moored in the area.
Finally, Deb and Mike told us that the author, E.B. White was buried in the town cemetery so we went to find the grave of the man who taught us about grammar, writing and protecting pigs.
