Mapleland Farm in Salem, NY
A little behind in my postings so I’ll try and catch up. After leaving Cooperstown we headed north in New York. Stopped briefly in Saratoga and then headed to our Harvest Host site - a maple syrup farm in Salem NY. The road to get there was pretty windy but it took us through some great small towns that border Vermont. We made it to the host site about 4 pm. There was another family already set up in their trailer. We took the spot on the gravel closest to their mill so we were on gravel in case it rained.
After setting up camp we took the walking tour of this portion of their farm. See Facebook for videos of the tour.
After the walking tour we had a tour of the processing plant from Terry one of the farm owners. Learned a lot about what goes into making a gallon of maple syrup.
We spent the night at this wonderful farm and because it is in such a remote location with no lights we were able to see the Milky Way once it got dark. The next morning I took a walk up the road to their shop to buy some homemade maple items. Great vistas from the road and some beautiful wild flowers.
All in all a great stay.
