Fort Stanwix National Monument - Rome, NY

This fort located in Rome, New York is an example of an  American Revolution period fort. Located at the intersection of the Mohawk River and the Wood Creek which served as a vital link between the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Ontario for native tribes of northern New York.  The fort fended off not only the French and British it was also the site from which America dealt with the Six Nation Confederacy.

The fort is well maintained and rebuilt with historical accuracy based on archeological digs.

Great docents at this location. The fort was open for tours but the visitor center has been closed all summer. Hoping things open up this fall.
