We made it to the UP in Michigan

Well we left Wisconsin behind and headed for the upper peninsula of Michigan. Some interesting art as you travel through the peninsula. The one noticeable change is the lack of people. It is very sparsely populated up here. It’s easy to explain based on the winter weather conditions here but with cities and towns with less than 500 full time residents you lose a lot of infrastructure.  Grocery stores are hard to come by as are gas stations. Lots of well paved roads up here but not a lot of places to stop. Very few restaurants to stop and eat. Just not enough people to support the business. People come here for the summer and they bring what they need.

We were headed for Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We had reservations to stay at an RV Park on Lake Manistique.  Great park on the lake.

We went to the visitor center for Pictured Ricks but we did not visit the park. It is a park best seen from the water and we really didn’t want to do and organized kayak trip. The visitor centers were closed to visitors and frankly we decided to do a hike suggested by our old neighbor Julie Elenbaum who is from Michigan so on her advice we made a plan to do a hike in a state park to see some waterfalls.
