Driving over the Mackinac Bridge
We were both anxious about driving over the bridge that connects the upper peninsula of Michigan to the rest of the state. It’s a rather large expanse - over five miles long. Finally we decided to come up this way and cross this bridge because other big rigs do it every day so we could too.
In all honesty it was no big deal. Way better than the bridge we crossed to go from Duluth, Minnesota to Wisconsin.
We had a glorious day with no wind. It cost us $14 in tolls - our first toll on this trip. $10 for the “boat” and $4 for towing the jeep.
Took us a while to cross because we were stuck behind a tanker truck. Bridge rules require all loaded trucks to cross at no more than 20 mph. Everyone else can drive at 45 mph. It’s only two lanes in both directions and towing a jeep behind the boat up hill over a bridge does not make for easy passing so we went slow and enjoyed the scenery.
