LBJ National Historical Park
Last night’s rain ended and left us with a beautiful day to go and explore LBJ’s ranch. There is both a state and national park honoring the man’s legacy to this area. He and Lady Bird are both buried here in the shade of some large trees.
You are able to visit the house where he was born, his parents’ house, his show barn, the hangar where his Jetstar “Air Force 1/2” is housed, some of his car collection and the exterior of the western White House where he and his family lived. The visitor center is under construction so the exhibits were reduced but one of the more interesting exhibits was a set of gifts he received as President which included cuff links. tie bars, cigarette lighters and much more.
Phil of course loved the plane.
This is a working farm and the locals get to wander around the place or lay in the middle of the road (focus in on this photo and see the calf lying in the middle of the road).
Ricky was able to go everywhere on the ranch except inside buildings. He specifically liked the historical German family homestead. It is staffed with docents who mimic what it was like to settle in this area in 1912. He was very well behaved with the animals. Not bad for a city dog.
This might be my favorite thing you have done this far. Wow.
