Day 1 we’re off

Finally after all the preparation, planning, purchases and pandemic we have set out on our “bucket list” plan to travel across America in our RV.  Our hope is to explore this great country visiting not only the tourist spots but some out of the way locations that really give you a glimpse of this country - both past and present - all the while partaking in local cuisine, home brews and boutique wineries.

Today’s stop was at the General Patton Museum in Chiriaco Summit, CA.  You’ve driven past this place if you’ve ever driven east on the 10 to “The River” or Tucson.  It’s not very far but we decided that for our first night we just wanted to actually get started and go somewhere.

It’s a fascinating little museum that highlights the man, the training center that was located here during WWII, and the brave souls - both men and women - who fought in that war.

Best of all they had a typewriter.  Phil was happy!!

We “boondocked” behind the museum at free dry camping area. Boondocking refers to a location where you can stay but there is no water, electricity or bathroom facilities.  Since our RV is self-contained, we can easily spend a night here. Our fridge runs on propane, we carry lots of water, we have our own bathroom and a generator if we need it. So we’ll see how tonight goes, but so far so good.

  4. Learned something new today "Boondocking". Love that you two are off on this grand adventure and I look forward to following along. If you are near Chicago area this summer, let's go sailing. We can also meet you if you make it to the Golden Isles of Georgia.
